The Lewis and Clark expedition went through Kentucky and many of the members of this famed expedition came from Kentucky. Kentucky is also famous for its "blue grass" which is due to the
bluish-purple buds that are produced
each spring on the grass which cast a blue shadow over a lawn
or field. This is why Kentucky is known as the Bluegrass state.
